Started the tear down on the Stella. It would appear that spark is an issue. They might have wanted to change this plug before they decided it was dead. I need to go get a replacement, and we will see. I can't tell if the fuel pump is working, but the lines appear to have fuel in them. I may try cleaning the carb; these have a reputation for getting gummed up.
Stay tuned, Oppo.

Either the plug is toast or they tried running it rich in order to get it to fire up. Easy test with plugs is to hold them against the frame as you try to start it. If you can see it arcing then the plug isn’t the issue (as far as getting it fired up is concerned).

You should be able to bodge it by burning the tip with a match or torch. Not a long term fix, but should be enough to get some spark.

My mentor’s miata shop used to pull wrecked miatas out of the (primarily) insurance auctions, fix them and then sell them with a six month warranty. There were many, many miatas around, including wrecked racecars, so buying a smushed miata and mating it with non-smushed corners from other cars was an easy and profitable exercise when you have enough cars to choose from and knew the structure of the chassis inside and out . The riskiest car they thought they ever bought was an NA in perfect condition inside and out but not running. They started trouble shooting it to discover an otherwise healthy car that wasn’t getting fuel. The pulled the sending unit to discover a brand new pump... with a gauge sender that didn’t work and an empty tank. Someone had run a miata through a salvage auction because they didn’t figure out it had a broken gauge sender and was out of gas.

Did you try holding the plug against the cylinder while you give it a kick/starter push to see if it sparks ?

A clean carb and a new plug may be all you need. That’s why I’ve fallen head over heels for two wheeled contraptions. When one of my smarts break , I have to buy tools and follow some complicated repair procedure that also calls for expensive parts. Oh, and if the bad part is *really* bad I have to employ a tow truck.
Thus far when a bike breaks? Even something as scary sounding as “replace the fuel system” can be done in short time over some beers and limited cussing.
Congrats on the new toy!
PS: The MBFS situation will be wrapped up tomorrow with a nice overnighted package.
